christmas advent calendar

i have been far too absent from this blog... but a new year's goal for me will be to update my blogs more often. so, to start the year off right i'm showing off my banner advent calendar.
on each flag is an activity that the family can do during the christmas season. some are generic, just in case we have to work around it. for example, there are two service nights and two christmas parties. some are more specific, with a movie to watch or something special to eat.
i made a tab that folds down over each one, to which i attached a piece of fastener adhesive made by tombow (a kind of velcro). then i made 25 numbers, also with fasteners on the back. at the start of the season i went through my calendar to figure out what nights already had something planned, and when we could fit in the other activities.
each day we pulled off a number to see what the activity for that night would be.
i loved that it was part of my decor for the season and served a purpose as well.

here is the project i had posted on the tombow website this week. i love it! i think i'm making them for gifts. some special people in my life may be the recipient of one of these fabulous menu boards!

easter egg

so i saw this idea on the cosmo cricket blog...using rubons on your easter eggs and then dying them. it totally worked! i am so excited for next year. i'll hoard a few eggs before the kids can dye them all. this was the only one i got this year. the rubon is from pink paislee. it was large, but it worked. however, i might stick to smaller images...
happy easter! off to helen, ga with the kiddos and the in-laws.

i made this last month...
i am making it a priority to get out and scrapbook LAYOUTS once a month.
too often i work on projects, decor, mini books, or albums for someone else that i don't have enough done of just my kids.
so, this was one of my creations for february's cropping night!
i used it as my "intro" for the tombow design team. it was posted on the tombow blog on march 3rd.
it was fun to create with pictures that had just been taken and printed...
love my two babies!

thanksgiving craft project

joanna had a great idea over on the tombow blog, so i gathered up some supplies -paper scraps, glue stick, pens and scissors -and brought them with us to my in-laws, used their card table while watching the parade and created some of our own place tags.

hiatus?

well, last year IRW closed it's doors and i stopped teaching for a while. life gets in the way, when really it is life that i should be trying to capture and remember.
i'm busy right now, teaching pre-k, working part-time at archiver's, completing a master's program for elementary education, working with the children at church and being mom to two adorable children (most of the time they are adorable).
so i don't know how many projects i'll get posted, but i haven't left scrapbooking completely, so i still have ideas i am wanting to work out.
now i'm just more of a collector...

this is quite embarrassing, but my office was/is a mess. not just a small mess, but a big, huge, i need a professional organizer kind of mess. well i can't hire a professional, so i'm going to have to give it a go on my own. so here are pictures i took the end of the year...my goal is to have new pictures of my "after" in one week.

Hello My Dear Scrapbooking Friends,

You may have thought that I had fallen off the face of the scrapbooking world, and in some ways I really feel like I have. Life just keeps on going, but this past school year it has been going so fast that I haven't had the chance to really do any scrapbooking - for you or for myself.

But as New Year's Resolutions and Goals have been made I am determined to make more time in my day so I can get out of this rut that I am in and create again!

I am headed off this week to CHA (The Craft & Hobby Association's major convention for manufacturers to show off all their new products and fun stuff! - big THANK YOU Cathy for this opportunity!) This weekend will be the huge kick-in-the-pants that I need.

i was afraid to try something new....something that wasn't "scrapbooking" wasn't for me!
isn't that the way it is until you actually do that which you thought you wouldn't enjoy?
for me it was paper crafts and altered projects. wasn't really interested.
i don't remember what my first altered project was, but i do remember the freedom i felt from not worrying about a full layout, coordinating pages, or keeping it clean.
when i started cutting paper, pulling out fun embellishments and using mod podge on my projects it was all about the mess!

wanting to scrapbook

i am really wanting to scrapbook today, and i don't have any pictures to use. now before you take that to mean that i am all caught up, because i am not, nor will i ever be, and therefore i don't worry about it....
my trouble is i don't have any pictures accessible to start scrapbooking with.
i must get myself together. this last week i have been trying to organize anything "scrapbook" related in my office.
(i am hoping soon to sort out all the memorabilia that i have piled in some lame shelf built into my desk that really doesn't have a good purpose for being there. i need to find a better function for it that holding ticket stubs, christmas cards, cards and certificates.)
i have been putting pictures that have been printed (from the thousands held hostage on my computer due to the fact that i'm all about digital....) into photo albums 12 x 12 albums using page protectors with opening for individual pictures, to at least have a place to look at them. most are xander in his first year.
so yes, i do have something to scrapbook. a beautiful little boy who will be four in two months.
but as i sit here and realize that my daughter's first birthday is only a week away and i have only done ONE page of her i am feeling completely overwhelmed, embarrassed, distraught, and a myriad of other emotions....
one being the intense desire to create something. anything!
but alas, it is after midnight, i have to work in the morning and that requires some sleep.
so, my goal for this week is to print some recent pictures of my two children and find a layout that inspires me and use it to accomplish a new layout!
as for all the other pictures that are waiting to be printed, i will print as many as i can a week (silly budget) and keep putting them in my "photo" albums, they will inspire me to create something for myself!

sarah'scrap has a home

so my husband, wanted to name my "business", and as he so fondly puts it my scrapbooking is my "crap" - hence sarah'scrap!
scrapbooking is my hobby and my business and my obsession. i even dream about it, wake up in the middle of the night and have to write out my thoughts before i can go back to sleep.
i have created many scrapbook pages, many small projects and dabbled in altered items and paper crafts. but, for my first ever post i wanted to add my absolute favorite layout i've ever done.
i hope with this blog to keep my friends and family in "the loop" and use this as a place to show off projects i am able to complete. nothing formal, just a place to share...
